oh every year
at the dawning of December
i would write a wishlist
and send it on its way
i counted off the days
but on the 25th i woke to my dismay
i found a rock
down in my stocking
what have i done
oh i’ve tried to be good this year
am i a degenerate
i only asked for presents
presents i could use
i would even take an ugly pair of shoes
but i found a rock
down in my stocking
i’m not a crook
though i’ve acted like a baby
and now i’m staring at a nativity
i know that i’ve been flailing
around on shifting sand
and i need a firmer ground on which to stand
i found a rock
down in my stocking
and that rock never sways
and my stocking's not the same
